Kort Schubert- Biography

Kort Shubert was an Oaks Junior Varsity Assistant Coach in 2015 and 2016 and Varsity Assistant Coach in 2019-2021.  His prior coaching experience includes being an Assistant Rugby Coach for the UC Berkeley Varsity Rugby Team, which helped lead the team to USA Rugby Collegiate National Championships in 2007 and 2008.  Kort was a Professional Rugby Player, Cardiff Blues, Wales, UK where he competed in the Celtic League (Pro 12) and Heineken Cup, consisting of teams from Wales, Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy and France.  At the time he was 1 of 5 American rugby players with a professional rugby contract in Europe.  Kort was a starting player in 41 matches, with a team high of 28 starts in 2004-05 season.  As a member of the USA Rugby Men’s National Team he competed in 50 International Rugby Board (IRB) sanctioned test matches over 10 seasons in such countries as Australia, Canada, Chile, Uruguay, Japan, Tonga, and Western Samoa.  Kort was Team Captain of the Eagles in 2004, 2005, and 2006 and was the Top USA try scorer in the 2003 Rugby World Cup, rugby’s foremost international tournament, helping to lead the team to their first ever victory in a World Cup.  Kort was named to Rugby Magazine’s USA Rugby “2000’s Team of the Decade”.  As a collegiate rugby player at the University of California, Berkeley he earned 5 National Championships (1998-2002; captain in 2001/2002)

And was a 5 Time Collegiate All American (captain on tours in 2001 (Ireland) / 2002 (South Africa).  Kort also earned 2002 UC Berkeley Male “Athlete of the Year” and was a Woodley Award Winner in 2001 and 2002, Collegiate rugby’s highest honor.
